The face of Jesus

The face of Jesus

2012  110cm x 80cm    acrylic

July 2011, I sensed the Lord prompting me to paint a painting to encourage people as they prayed.  I asked the Lord “What am I to paint?” Then I heard him whisper “A large portrait of the face of Jesus” and then a quick  glimpse of it came to my mind. I felt overwhelmed by this as I knew that to try to do this was way out of my league.  I started doing lots of research and practising and practising by sketching eyes, noses, mouths and faces.  I did this for weeks and weeks without any success. Then one day, early in 2012 I heard the Lord whisper to me again, “It’s very safe just practising! It’s time to pick up the paint brush!” So I did and I know he enabled me every step of the way.

I based the painting on the face of Jesus that came to me at the Colour Women’s Conference in 2000. We were all worshipping together and I prayed “Lord, show me how to worship you better”.  It was then that I saw the face of Jesus. He moved very close to me and looking into my eyes said, “Elaine, always keep your eyes on me”. The memory of His face has been such a blessing to me over the years.

Painting this picture really stretched me and I learnt a lot of things on many levels during that time. I loved every minute and every day it took me to complete it.  It was such a wonderful time of worship. I feel humbled and blessed that I was asked to be the hand on the paintbrush as the Lord worked in me and through me to create what He wanted on the canvas.

My prayer is that this painting will speak to many people and bring them closer to God.
